Alby and I, along with our traditional wedding vows, have also vowed to each other to travel the world together. Our first trip on this journey was our honeymoon to Bora Bora and Moorea (Tahiti)
What an amazing trip!! We flew from SF to LA to catch our Air Tahiti Nui flight to Papeete (Tahiti). From the tips we received from many friends, we decided to pick up some liquor at the Duty Free to take with us on our trip, since drinks were known to be super pricey on the islands!
Our flight from LAX to Papeete was a red-eye....we were a little sleepy when we landed in Papeete, but as we were greeted by Tahitian dancers at the airport which jolted us awake! On our connecting flight from Papeete to Moorea we were lucky enough to catch the sun rising over this little piece of paradise in the Pacific!
We spent about 3 days in Moorea, and it was just wonderful!! Alby and I both worked on our tans, relaxed from the wedding, and just enjoyed each other's company. While in Moorea we rented a car and drove around the entire island (just takes 45 minutes!) One of the view points we visited was Mt. Belevedere (sp?). We also attended a Tahitian Culture Night and dinner, where we both got to learn how to dance the traditional Tahitian dance and eat traditional food.
After our 3 days in Moorea, we bid adieu and flew over to Bora Bora! Now Bora Bora is the most picturesque place ever. That screen saver in Windows with the beach is definitely a shot of Bora Bora. The airport is on this little reef that surrounds the main island. So to get from the airport to our resort required a boat taxi :) In Bora Bora we stayed in an over water bungalow! The water was just amazing there. Not very deep at all, so that you could basically walk out almost a mile away from the shore and still be in waist deep water. One of the crazy activities we had signed up for here was swimming with sharks and sting rays. The sting rays were actually pretty cool, and most of them had had their stringers removed so they were safe. The sharks were another story!! Definitely a crazy scary experience, and not something I'd jump to do again....but I guess atleast
We also celebrated Alby's birthday in Bora Bora. We started the morning off with breakfast brought to us by canoe to our room. Then we boarded a catarman that we were sharing with another couple for a tour of Bora Bora by boat. We then came back to the resort for a special candlelit dinner and a surprise birthday cake :) What a great way to celebrate!
